I didn’t post over the weekend. My gut reaction was to judge my lack of commitment. Then I remembered why I started this blogging journal/challenge: to write. Just write. Just for fun. Just for me.
Who cares if I missed a couple days? No one.
Who did it hurt? Nobody.
Does it matter in the larger scheme of things? Nope.
So here’s to day 3!
This week my focus is finishing editing A Curse of Feathers & Fools. Then I’ll format it enough to send off to Beta readers.
I’m excited about this book. Not because I think it’s the best I’ve ever written, but because the story is fun. It’s quick and different from my other work. The themes of caring when others don’t (or won’t), being brave, and sacrificial love are central to the story. There’s no romance, only friendship.
A Curse of Feathers & Fools is written primarily with girls in mind. I want preteen and teenage girls to have characters who are brave and selfless. I also want them to find female characters in stories who hold positions of power and aren’t always good or bad, but maybe somewhere in-between.
But I also hope preteen and teenage boys will read this book and enjoy it. I know I grew up reading fiction that featured boys as primary characters and I absolutely loved those stories (The Black Stallion, LOTR, The Master Puppeteer, etc.). So even though this story might be geared toward a female audience, I hope a male audience will also enjoy picking it up and joining Sarilda on the adventure of a lifetime.
That’s all for now. Talk soon.
